In the following, we propose a modification with the broken symmetry..Black are republicans. Black King and Queen are taken off the board; otherwise, standard chess rules apply. To win, a pawn becomes a president reaching the last rank. To lose, all pawns are lost..White are monarchists. White King and Queen do not move, and pawns can be promoted to anything but King or Queen; otherwise, standard chess rules apply. To lose, King and Queen are both lost..A player skips his turn when he has no legal move to make. Draw occurs when both players are stalled. Black start..Players decide their "political" identity by flipping the coin. For example, if one flips the US cent, the head makes one a Republican, and his opponent will defend Monarchy. In one flips British penny, the head sets her loyal to Monarchy. It would be cool if a coin was sold with the US president from the US cent on one side and the British queen from the British penny on another side..Finally, obvious symmetrical versions exist of white versus black republicans or white versus black monarchists...
